A few FAQs I've been asked about this object. (Including some updates to describe the linkage to an object seen in 2009, and graphics showing the orbit and impact location.)

Note that you can get customized ephemerides for your location and desired time span through the Space Junk ephemeris page provided by the Minor Planet Center, and from the JPL Horizons service (click on "Target body" and enter WT1190F; it doesn't show up in the list of spacecraft, but Horizons does know about it.)
I'll update this page frequently between now and the impact. More observations are coming in, so the predictions will get tweaked accordingly. The last observations may not be made until half an hour before impact.

Note that the impact lat/lon shown in the elements is the "nominal" impact point: where the object would be most likely to hit in the absence of an atmosphere. If you look at the end of the ephemeris, which includes (rather approximate) atmospheric drag, that nominal point westward by about fifty km and south a few kilometers. And the object's re-entry into the earth's atmosphere will be still further west.

The following solution uses only the most recent data. I think that's best for representing the current short-term motion of the object, though it does have some problems: the orbit includes a lot of forces operating on the object, such as the oblateness of the earth, planetary perturbations, and a steady outward force caused by sunlight hitting the object and pushing it outward ("solar radiation pressure", or "SRP"). But that's not the whole story. There are sideways forces caused by the object absorbing sunlight, then re-radiating it after it's rotated. (For an asteroid, this would be the Yarkovsky effect, and would be small but measurable. For a lighter-weight piece of space junk, it becomes more significant.) The outward SRP force depends, in part, on whether the junk is mostly "broadside" to the sun and getting lots of sunlight, or "end-on" and not getting as much. About the best we can do is to collect data shortly before re-entry, expecting that these factors won't change much during that time. (And even if they do, these odd effects won't have a long time to accumulate and push the object off prediction.)

At present, an orbit that attempts to fit all the observations, or even more than a few years, doesn't work especially well, because of all the weird forces working on the object.
