Hi Lawrence,
A few things to try...
(1) Use Go To... Object Name, and enter C/2013 UQ4. The 'C/' is significant when
entering a comet name; otherwise, it'll look for an asteroid 2013 UQ4, and it
won't find it.
(2) Try Help.. Quick Info. This lists comets to mag 15; Catalina (C/2013 UQ4)
should be among them, at mag 11.7. If it doesn't show up on-screen, check
Data Shown... Comets and make sure they're visible to at least that magnitude.
(3) Are you running the "current" Guide 9 software from
http://www.projectpluto.com/new.htm
? (There is a way to use this with your Guide 8 CDs, described on the same
page.) I _highly_ recommend doing this. Toward the end of Guide 8's life, the
mechanisms for handling comet data had become grotesque, leading to lots of
bizarre bugs which I never did figure out. The mechanisms used in the current
software are much simpler, and therefore (to my knowledge) bug-free.
