Re: [guide-user] How to get GSC numbers in GUide 9

Bill Gray Feb 4, 2014

Hi Josch,

The only way to do this is to hit Alt-J and enter 12. This (undocumented)
"switch" toggles Guide to display stars using GSC instead of UCAC-3. That is
to say, it falls back on the star display system used in Guide 8.

In general, this is not a good idea, as UCAC is a much better catalog
in terms of going fainter, more complete, with more accurate positions and
magnitudes. However, when Guide is drawing using GSC, it'll show GSC
numbers when you right-click on a star. I'd expect one would use this method,
identify stars by GSC number, then hit Alt-J again and enter 12 to return
to UCAC display.
