Re: [guide-user] Toggle User Datasets Question

Hi Mike,

Sounds as if you got around this anyway, but...

I'm pretty sure you had all the files installed. Guide will check
the existence of the data file before even showing the dataset in the
list. (The reason for this is that the .tdfs list some datasets that
are not provided by default, ones that you have to go out and download
somewhere. I felt it would be best if the program didn't suggest that
"you can display dataset X" unless the corresponding file was actually
available to Guide.)

With the dataset turned On or Auto or Fixed, you should get an
asterisk next to "M31 Globulars". However, even then, there's the
whole issue of "Show At". This trips people up every now and then.
You may have the data turned On, but only at (say) fields of view
from zero to three degrees. Then you'll go to a five-degree field,
and the data will "mysteriously" vanish.

It can also be a good idea, as suggested by others, to turn labels
on and to set the color to something distinctive.

This is one of the biggest pros of Guide in my opinion, the stand alone nature of its install folder. Copy it to another location, and stuff still works.
