Re: [guide-user] Toggle User Datasets Question

When I tried this earlier, I checked the file tdf_list.dat to see which datasets are currently used by Guide. This file (which is a plain text file) also tells you in which tdf-file the dataset is defined. After turning the M31 globulars on, the second line in tdf_list.dat looks like this:

!:\text\m31gc.dat                                       cd_data3.tdf                66280 * M31 Globular clusters

which means that the dataset is defined in cd_data3.tdf. Perhaps this file is missing?

That said, a clean install may not hurt anyway. You don't need to uninstall. Just delete the Guide9 folder (or rename it, to keep a copy in case you are unhappy with the new install). This is one of the biggest pros of Guide in my opinion, the stand alone nature of its install folder. Copy it to another location, and stuff still works.

Best,

Arild :)

Arild,

Yes, the file is in the guide9\text directory. The M31 TDF and IDF files are in the same directory. This matches their location on the DVD.

Think I’ll try a clean install. Is there a recommended method to uninstall the program? I read that simply deleting the Guide directory worked. That comment applied to Guide8. Anything else needed for Guide9?

Thanks.

Mike

Mike,

do you have the file <guide install directory>\text\M31gc.dat on your computer? If not, the dataset is missing from your install. I haven't got the DVD on hand right now, but would expect you to be able to find the file on your install disc. Just copy it to the "text" directory of your Guide installation.
