That solution works for keeping the stars still while the comet moves. I have successfully made a couple of videos doing that.

To Bill:

Could you consider (as an update or in a new version) the option to slow down animation movies? Luc's solution was very helpful, but I would really like to be able to show the comet in relation to the local horizon. Perhaps an adjustable frame rate of 1 step per second rather than 1/30 sec per step. This would allow me to keep the horizon line in the movie (using each step as 1 rotational period) and still slow it down enough so that the eye can easily track the moving objects.
