Re: [Unsure] [guide-user] Guide Question

Hi Tom,

Hmmm... as was suggested, about the best you can do here is to change
the sizes of the zoom levels, rather than the limiting magnitudes. (Each
zoom level corresponds to a 1.3 magnitude change. If you're at, say,
level 4 with a limiting magnitude of 6.5, and you hit Alt-8 to go to
level 18, the magnitude limit will go up by 14*1.3 = 15.6, to 21.1.
As has been pointed out, the likelihood that Guide will show you actual
mag 21.1 stars is pretty low!)

It occurs to me, though, that the 1.3 mags/level factor could be
tweaked. In the next update I post, one will be able to hit Alt-J and
enter text such as

MAGS_PER_LEVEL=1.5

If you did that, then in the above example, you'd go from a mag
limit of 6.5 to a mag limit of 6.5 + (14 * 1.5) = 27.5. (At which point
I can _guarantee_ you that Guide won't show mag 27.5 stars.)
