...but it sounds as if you're now doing what you should be doing. I.e., you
have the 'iii.dat' file in your Guide9 folder (just to check: my copy of that file
is 6999245 bytes long), and you've extracted the files from 'gcvs.zip' into your
Guide9 folder.

That, by itself, should be enough to ensure that the GCVS stars are shown,
and that they're labelled (just tried it with a fresh installation.) I used
Go To... Go To .TDF Object, selected "GCVS (current)" (which should have an
asterisk next to it, by the way), and entered "V0574 And". It centered on the
star, which was labelled.

If the "Go To" doesn't work, we should investigate that, too... but first,
try clicking on Go To... Object Name and entering TYC 2831 1629 (designation for
V574 And in the Tycho-2 catalogue). It should show up, with the "V0574 And"
label next to it.

Also: under Extras... Toggle User Datasets, look for "GCVS (current)" and
click "Adjust Dataset". Make sure that it's On and that the "Label" box is
checked. Also, note the "Show at" boxes; these default to 0 and 4, indicating
that the stars are shown from 0 to 4 degrees. It occurs to me that the most
likely reason you aren't seeing the labels would be that you're at, say, five
degrees. (In that case, the stars will still usually appear -- after all, they'll
be in the UCAC3 or Tycho catalogues most of the time -- but the labels won't.)
