That's one way to do it. Another is to go into the Settings...
Toolbar dialog. Near the bottom of the list of possible toolbar
buttons is one to "Toggle scope location indicator". Turn this
one On.

When clicked, Guide will check the telescope once a second
to get its current position, and will show a symbol on that
point. (If that point isn't near enough to the screen center,
Guide will recenter to get to that point.) Click again to turn
it off.
