It is very odd that the master creator of Charon would undermine it in such a
way, but I have heard similar.
Beyond a doubt, Charon is the best astrometric program out there and far easier
to use and keep maintained/updated than any other.

I think the obsolescence issue is that it is DOS based and with the advent of
Windows Vista, DOS is no longer supported by Bill Gates. Bill (Gray) has
indicated many times his desire to upgrade to a Windows based application for
Charon, but as yet I have not seen anything on this.

Frankly, I keep seven computers on Windows XP Pro simply to run Charon and a
handful of other astro applications that do not like Windows 7. I have no
desire to change....either to something besides XP PRO or Charon.
