Re: [guide-user] Re: Quasars

There are a few things going on here...
Guide has been using the Veron-Cetty quasar catalogs for some
years now. Guide 9 uses the 13th edition of that catalog. You
can turn on quasar display as a user-added dataset, and/or
use Go To... Go To .TDF Object to find one. (Similarly with
Guides 7 and 8, except it'll be an older version of the V-C
catalog.)
There appear to be some odd things in how quasars are named,
and people have told me that the name given in V-C doesn't match
a name they'd seen elsewhere. In particular, the most famous
quasar is listed as "3C 273.0". Long ago, I got enough inquiries
about this to cause me to add a line for "3C273" to the file
'objects.nam', used to handle object names people might enter
that wouldn't be correctly interpreted otherwise. (Currently,
that means 3C273, "SMC", "LMC", and a slew of lettered
bright stars such as c Psc, q1 Eri, etc.)
Anyway... Lawrence, you're right; Guide can't provide a list
of quasars.
