NexHub _is_ a rather nice solution. Unfortunately, it's for Celestron
scopes only (I asked the author about this).

Pete, I probably should have asked this question earlier... to the three
possible fixes I mentioned before, add a fourth: for what purpose are you
using TheSky? Depending on what it is, it's conceivable that I could add
something or other to Guide, and TheSky wouldn't be necessary (for you).
