<Groan> WDS display is not enabled by default in Guide 9.0. I tried
to get a little too clever here, in hopes of keeping things simple.
Instead, I've made them more complicated. You'll see what I mean as
you read the following:

Guide 9.0 has a passably "current" version of WDS baked into it
(it's the data file 'wds_crun.dat'). To display it, you need the file
'wds_new.tdf'. You may (or may not) already have it in your Guide 8.0
folder. If so, you can copy it over, as Roger did, or download it from

http://www.projectpluto.com/wds_new.tdf

and unZIP it in your Guide 9.0 folder, then a "WDS (current)" entry
will appear in Guide 9.0's list of user-added datasets.

The US Naval Observatory updates WDS every now and then. Usually not
by a lot, but stars do get added and corrected. It's a very big deal if
you're running Guide 8.0; in that case, you have a somewhat elderly
version of WDS and will want to update right away. And with Guide 9.0,
you'll want to update WDS eventually.

To update WDS, you should look at

which contains a full description of how to get the current version
of WDS working in Guide 8.0 _or_ 9.0... same process, it's just a little
more urgent from the viewpoint of 8.0 users. The process involves
downloading a small file from the Project Pluto site; unZIPping it;
downloading a larger WDS data file from the USNO Web site; and running
a little program called "add_loc" that fixes up some strange things in the
USNO data file.
