Hi Bill,

I did the second step, replacing comets.dat by the file I downloaded from the link below - my comets file was still the original one on the disk - and Garradd 2009 P1 is shown correctly in the file but does not appear on the map.
What did I do wrong?
The original comets.dat is still present in a subdirectory... would Guide prefer that one?

I'd ask that _first_ you send me the files 'soft02cm.txt', 'comets.dat',
and 'now_comt.dat' from your Guide folder. The first is the file of MPC
comet data. The second is Guide's comet data, merged from all comet files
you've downloaded from MPC. The merging is a little tricky, and can
result in "double comets" when MPC changes comet designations; but it
shouldn't result in crashes.

Anyway... I may be able to look at those files and see a culprit.

_Then_, after doing this step, I'd recommend downloading this file to
your Guide folder:

http://www.projectpluto.com/comets.dat

...overwriting your current 'comets.dat' file (which I'm assuming is
full of corrupted data; I just don't know if that happened because of
bad data drawn from 'soft02cm.txt'.) With a non-corrupt, up-to-date
'comets.dat', you should be able to run Guide again without issues.
