Re: [guide-user] HD85512 = TYC 7706 1752 = HIP 48331

Hi Thomas,

You're right, there's a problem here.

If you use Go To... Object Name and enter HD 85512 (or use Go To...
Star... HD and enter 85512), Guide looks up the position from the
Henry Draper catalog. Those positions are often off by a little bit.
In this case, the HD position is a bit more than an arcminute in error.
(For a modern star catalog, that would be absolutely terrible. But
the HD is about a century old.)

Locate it as HIP 48331, though, and there's no problem.

In a better world, somebody (possibly me) would produce an HD
catalog with positions extracted from HIP and Tycho-2. Actually,
that sounds vaguely familiar... pause to search... aha! No need
for me to re-invent this particular wheel:

http://cdsarc.u-strasbg.fr/viz-bin/Cat?IV/25

Which would enable Guide to turn an HD identifier (with its low
precision location) into a Tycho-2 one (which nails things down
very exactly indeed). Something for the future...
