MFC and DSS Downloads

Steve Kerr Aug 20, 2011

Hi,

About nine months back, I ran into trouble with printing from Guide 8
... the print job would crash Guide with a Windows error message
talking about the MFC application having stopped and Windows was
shutting Guide down (this is Vista SP2 32 bit). Eventually, I
couldn't run Guide at all - Windows would shut Guide down as soon as
I tried to start it. Did a delete and reinstall and everything came
back to life ... except DSS image downloads.

I don't use DSS downloads all that much so I just lived with it.
Tonight, I have downloaded the new 13 August version of Guide and see
that there is a fix for DSS download issues (not sure what those
issues were) thinking that might clear things up. It hasn't. When I
ask for a download, it basically just ignores me and nothing happens
(when viewed from within Guide).

I went into C:/Guide and tried starting get_dss.exe directly and
Windows comes up with the error box "getimg22 MFC Application has
stopped working" and that Windows is shutting it down ... just like
the earlier print job problems.

While I expect this to be more likely a Windows issue than a Guide
issue, any help would be much appreciated. I have essentially no
idea what the MFC application is other than it appears to be some
facility within newer versions of Windows to run older style software
...???

Thanks in advance,
Steve Kerr.
