RE: [guide-user] GCL 016 ?

I suspect that the Globular cluster is in error. As you remarked Simbad
shows nothing apart from Shk 1 at this position, let along recognizing GCL
016. NED shows nothing either. I guess only Bill can tell us the source of
the information.

Hello Bill,
Guide 8 more info about this object (drawn as a globular cluster) gives the
following:
----------------------------------
Right ascension: 10h54m56.1s
Declination: +40 27' 59"
GCL 016
Apparent magnitude: 15.0
angular diameter 1.2'
Distance: 5.0 kiloparsecs
----------------------------------
This location is 2 arcmin west of Shakhbazian 1, a very compact cluster of
galaxies. But at that position there is nothing to see, especially not a 15
mag
bright globular cluster. In a german ccd mailing list was discussed a
beautiful
image of this compact cluster:

Do you know what's the origin of this catalog and especially of this object
#016
is? Simbad don't know an object "GCL 16" in it's database.
Clear skies
