Bill,

With my fingers crossed, I just tried this as a test and needed disc
1 in the drive from then on. Shutting down with Guide running
doesn't affect startup.mar, it seems to delete guide.exe. Using XP
Home, sp3, G8 22 October, 2010. I think this is the latest version...?

Searching for guide.exe does not find any instances. Searching for
startup.mar shows 4 instances. (I have Guide installed in several
places, paranoid backups, I guess!) Inserting disc 1 lets the
program run guide.exe, but does not replace it. Probably the reason
you have only seen this rarely is that few people shut down with
Guide running, I never have until this test. Does this help?
