Re: [guide-user] I wish Guide had that: better horizons

Rolf Stadelmaier Feb 17, 2011

Hello Bill and others,

first I've to confess that I really love Guide - it has become an indispensable tool
to my astronomy activities. Almost all the before mentioned rendering of praise
I can confirm. Yes Bill, you did a very very good job!

Though in context to the discussion about displaying ground and horizon objects
I remember one thing I often have been confused about:
For orientation I like to look on Guide in level 1 and Alt/Az (zenith up) so I can
asses locations of obstruction and positions of desired objects in a reasonable
good manner. It's just like a planisphere.
What me tangles up is the unexpected behaviour of using the controls provided
by the Horizon dialog (Alt-W) in level 1. My experience is it works just reverse as
expected. Clicking on N I look at the southern region, clicking on S I look at the
northern region, and so on. At higher levels it works quite as expected.

Though perhaps I don't have the right insight to the use of the Horizon dialog and
I see it's only a humble little something of the whole good work.

Thanks and Clear Skies
Rolf Stadelmaier - who is like others eager awaiting Guide 9
