Hi Mario,
I just tried the same thing: set Guide's date/time for the full moons,
right-click on it, and get distances. But before I did that, I went
into "Settings... Location", and set the 'geocentric' check-box. I got:
357655 km for the November full moon
356731 km for the December full moon
Then I turned off the 'geocentric' check-box, so I got the distances
as seen from here (Bowdoinham, Maine, N 44.01, W 69.9). That gave:
353026 km for the November full moon (you got 352985, 41 km less)
359415 km for the December full moon (you got 359312, 103 km less)
Since you're about 200 km from here, this makes sense.
This is probably a good place to mention the following link:
http://www.projectpluto.com/faq_curr.htm#positions
99% of the time, when somebody calls to ask why Guide is showing
weird data, it turns out that something at the above link is the cause.
It's a good "checklist" to use when you wonder why Guide is giving such
odd results.
Since you brought up the subject... I just went for a walk outside,
and I can't say the increased brightness is at all noticeable to me.
Also: I just posted some updates to the Charon astrometry software.
I suspect maybe one Guide user in ten does astrometry, so I'll just say
that the details are listed at:
