Tonight, when I saved a mark after updating a few configuration settings,
Guide 8 will not boot without CD-1 in the CD drive, and when I try to load a
mark, Guide 8 crashes and offers to send a trouble report to Microsoft.
Guide 8 has been running on a WinXP PC for many years with no trouble. I had
it configured to run from the hard disk, and I had installed the July 22
update last summer. Tonight I made a minor configuration change (turned off
some labels), and I saved a mark (called "RAS") to over-write the RAS.NAM
mark file that has been in use for months. For some unrelated reason, it was
necessary for me to re-boot the computer. The next time I tried to run
Guide, a message appeared that said I needed to place CD-1 into the CD
reader. I did that and Guide booted up normally with the ancient default
configuration running. I used the Tools menu to allow running Guide from the
hard disk. To retrieve all my customized configuration parameters, I ran
"Load Mark" from the File menu. "RAS" was one of the available marks in the
drop-down window. When I clicked on "RAS", Guide appeared to delete itself
from memory, and a screen opend with an offer to send a crash report to
Microsoft.
I repeated the whole process and got the same result.
1. When I supply the Guide CD-1 and choose to install Guide on hard disk,
why do I get the message requiring CD-1 next time I try to run Guide?
2. If necessary, I'm willing to reinstall the entire Guide program from
scratch. If I do that, can I regain my customizations from my backup files?
I do have saved copies of RAS.NAM and other backed-up copies of files from
Guide's main folder. Do I need to reinstall any files other than RAS.NAM?
Which files (if any)?
