my projection was set to "Equidistant". I had forgotten all about
changing to that one, even though it happened just recently (blush).
Changing back to "stereographic" which I guess I used to use by
default, solved all issues with the display.

With Equidistant projection, the odd behavior occurs on level 1 and 2
only, however.

I'll mail you my startup.mar anyway to be sure, and a revised
strings.dat with the missing ellipses (...) for the menu items I
mentioned in my PS earlier.
