MAR files and WM_COMMAND ids 9800...9899

Hi Bill,

recently a user of my planning software Eye&Telescope let me know that after updating Guide 8 to the July 12th release, E&T's "center map" feature for Guide did not work any longer. Short inspection revealed that the technique used in my app does no longer work: E&T writes a mark file (mark99.txt) with the coordinates of the desired map center and then posts Guide a WM_COMMAND with id=9899 (9800 + number of mark file). You once told me this trick to have Guide load and interpret the mark file.

While it is no problem for me to go the old way before the Guide release of 2006/5/29 (programmatically bringing up the Goto.Coordinates.Enter RA/Dec... dialog and filling in what's required), I'd like to know whether you changed the mark file / WM_COMMAND mechanism. Do I miss something?

Currently Cambridge University Press prepares the release of Eye&Telescope in the United States. I'd be very happy to have a robust link with the latest Guide 8.

I know that it's my free, but problematic decision to establish a dependency on third party software like Guide. Of course, I have no right to become informed before a new update of Guide that might break the link. It's a pity that customers have to detect this. So I'd be glad if you could keep in mind that there is such a dependency and let me know in advance if something in Guide changes that might break the link. If you like, I will provide a free copy of Eye&Telescope for you. Did the one I sent last year ever reach your home?

Kind regards,
Tom
