Thanks to everyone who took the time to reply!

My "startup.mar" folder is indeed trashed. It was modified the last
time I used Guide. I don't know what I did to destroy it.

Startup.mar is empty except for one line:" 998 created 2455400.19".

I assume there should be more in there than the two lines Bill
quoted. Is there anyway to recover the entire folder short of
re-install? I have a number of custom catalogs installed that would be a
pain to do over.
