Re: [guide-user] NOVA T BOOTIS

T Boo has an interesting story. Going from memory only, it was
discovered as a fading star during the making of the Bonner Durchmusterung
in 1860. I believe it was only seen three times in 1860. The position
was measured visually with the 78mm short focus refractor used to make the
BD. The star has never been seen since. (The AAVSO observations are
believed to be spurious.)
The visual position measurement was not precise enough to
unambiguously identify the progenitor. So, variable star observers keep
an eye on this spot hoping for a re-brightening of this mysterious
object.
My recollections are from an Astronomical Scrapbook column in Sky
and Telescope Magazine by Joseph Ashbrook many years ago. Perhaps someone
has the issue and can check the article.
