I'm seeing the same oddity. I _thought_ I'd fixed those cases
long ago. The problem occurs when the magnitude given in GCVS is
an infrared one. A Mira can be _really_ bright in infrared, but
not so bright visually. If Guide shows it sized by the IR magnitude,
you get a very wrong idea of how bright the object is.

I will investigate. I fear the fix may require waiting for the
Guide 9 DVD, if it's something wrong with the data burnt into the
Guide 8 disks. (It also should occur in all flavors of Guide, not
just with the current update.)
