Re: [guide-user] Guide directories

Hi Lawrence,
Just to back up a bit... I gather what happened was that
you tried to install disk 2, using the Extras... Install to
Hard Drive option, and it didn't work? What happened?
(In theory, at least, you should get a list of the things
on that disk -- the DSS images, extra lunar image, and so
on. Clicking on those items should cause them to be asterisked;
then, when you click OK, there'll be a pause as they are
all copied over. Did any of that happen?)
A warning: if something _did_ go wrong, but in a manner
that persuaded Guide it hadn't, you could go into Extras...
Install to Hard Drive, and all those things would be asterisked.
To persuade Guide that it hadn't actually installed that stuff,
you would have to remove the asterisks and click OK. Then,
go back into Extras... Install to Hard Drive, turn 'em back
_on_ again, and click OK. (Otherwise, Guide will assume you're
trying to install already-installed data, and will assume it
need not do anything at all.)
Failing that, it's entirely possible that the data is there,
but the images are not being shown for one reason or another.
Just to check: underneath your Guide directory should be an
'images' directory, containing about 300 MBytes of about 260
files, most with extensions .idx and .lmp.
If the data is there, I'd take a look at Extras...
DSS/RealSky Images. Make sure that 'show images' is turned
on (of course!) and that the "show at" values cover the range
over which DSS images are to be shown (say, zero to five
degrees... most people find that if you try to show all images
over a really huge field of view, there's a lot of waiting.)
If that fails, toggle the 'invert images' button. It's
occasionally happened that someone has accidentally set their
contrast/brightness levels such that every image is plain
black. After toggling, they'll be plain white, and you
can right-click on the corner of an image and then adjust the
contrast/brightness levels to something more reasonable.
If _that_ fails... well, I'd not have much idea at that
point. But I'd check to see if the 'DSS from Internet'
function works. That might give us a clue as to what's
going on here.
