"Is there a way to update the variables listed in Guide8 to include the latest 79th Name-List of Variable Stars?"

The 79th Name List is completely subsumed within the latest iii.dat, and has been for some time now, from the GCVS website or the B/GCVS version of it (called something like gcvs.... something.dat).
