Sort of got it going on my own. When I did the full install certain folders and files therein weren't transferred from the CDs. Did a manual install now SS Cyg shows up!
However, after downloading the latest John Greaves Galactic Nova file, I found that even though when reading the DAT file shows there are a fair number of nova from late 2001 onwards, Guide 8 doesn't show any past V4642 SGR (Nova 2001/1). Nova Aql 2001 = V1548 Aql doesn't appear not does a later nova 2001 = V2774 Cyg which occurred in late 2001. Nothing discovered from V4642 SGR onwards shows up. Nova Oph 2008/2 = V2671 Oph although listed in the DAT file as entered (revised June 10, 2008 by John Greaves) won't show up. I assume that Guide 8 is looking for an additional file(s) which may have been omitted from the ZIP file.
Tried on both computers. Same thing.
