Hi All,
Some infos concerning new UCAC3, more ad less interesting.
First the good part:
I received the double sided DVD from USNO, copied it on my hard drive, told Guide.dat to go to the right folder (after of course having updated Guide8 with the last in testing up-date), and... the UCAC3 stars were perfectly displayed onto rthe screen, the info window appeared correctly when I clicked on a U3 star, and finally the More info too.
Secondly the les good part.
Because of course there is a "but", the Go-to Name option runs, say, strangely.
Let me give you an example:
2.5' north of NGC 4319, there is a UC3 star labelled, on the Info and More info windows, 3UCAC137322711.
If I run the go-to Name option, I write in the labelling window "3UC137-322711", I click on OK, and Guide goes directly to .. a star labelled "3UCAC57078281" !
Then, I ran the go-to name option, wrote in the label "3UC57-078281", and Guide went to... 3UCAC10874258 !
At this time, I ran once more the go-to option, wrote "3UC10-874258", and obtain the result: "Not a valid object".
I repeated the go-to, but chose to write "3UC108-74258" (by the way, how to choose beetween both numbers ?), and Guide went to... 3UCAC37875584.
At this time, we are at a click of the end od the story:
I ran the go-to, writing "3UC378-75584", and obtained "Not a valid object", but I repeated writing "3UC37-875584", and obtained a second time "Not a valid object".
This is the and of my story.
Please, Bill, would you tell me how to continue :-)
Thanks and regards.
Bertrand

Subject: [guide-user] Update posted
Hello all,
I've just revised the 'in-testing' version at
http://www.projectpluto.com/new.htm
Unless you're using UCAC-3, you can mostly ignore this. If
you _are_ using UCAC-3, you'd best get this update.
The designation scheme for UCAC-3 was going through some changes
over the last couple of weeks. Eventually, the decision was that
they would get names such as '3UC314-159265', which would mean the
159265th star in zone 314. All that meant I had to revise Guide
to handle a slightly different VizieR download, and to output
slightly different UCAC-3 data, and to have Go To... Object Name
accept 3UC designations such as the above.
A couple of other small changes:
Some of the 'more info' terms from UCAC-3 have glossary links.
I came up with a much better way of allowing up such links in
TDF files.
Artificial satellite names were getting clipped to 15 characters.
I've fixed this.
