First: In the animation menu open the "Animation dialog" box and set the time
interval you want by clicking on "faster" or "slower".
Right click on the object for which you want to show a trail. Click "OK".
This will allow the "Add a trail" menu in the - Animation menu - to be highlighted.
Click on the "Add a trail" dialog box and it will appear.
In it there are several settings you want to make:
1. your step size has already been set,
2. set the "index marks" at the number of steps you want them to appear (say 5),
3. check "time labels on", Set time label frequency to any desired spacing.
4. set number of steps desired
You can change the color of the trail so it will show depending on your color
setup. i.e have a white trail for a black sky or if planning to switch to chart
mode you will need a dark trail.
5. click "Add a trail" and your trail will appear.
Important to make sure you have zoomed in so that you are able to see the selected
trail if you select short steps.
