You should be able to right-click on Venus, and then on 'Display'.

In Guide 8, you'd then have the option of a cloud map or a surface
map (from Magellan radar, in shades of orange). In Guide 7, you'll
see "Bitmap #1" and "Bitmap #2".

My guess would be that you currently have the cloud map selected,
in which case you can just pick the other one. (It could be that you
have 'solid color' selected, with Venus just shown as a featureless
shaded ball. In that case, you may have to try both maps before
finding the surface one.)
