Copy the Guide directory(folder) on your laptop, not the CD, to the USB
stick, then copy this directory from the USB stick to your netbook. Or you
can install from the CD to the USB stick, then copy the resulting Guide
directory from the stick to the netbook, same thing except you have to
re-enter any personal settings like locations. You must install to a drive
first, Guide then resides in one folder which can be moved around from one
drive to another.

Netbooks do not have a CD drive in general. Here and now I have a laptop
with Guide installed as well as a CD drive. The netbook is planned to go
along to Australia in August and I would like to rely on that only as sky
map.
The CD does not copy completely to USB, a file which I do not remember
exactly is specified as not a valid DOS file and XP does not copy it and
stops copying the rest.
I might consider using an installation to USB, but would prefer an
installation to the hard drive of the Netbook, which is spacious enough.
USB-sticks have a tendency to get lost or hide, in particular on a dark
field at night.
