I'm a long-time user of Guide, using it almost exclusively as a deep sky
atlas. Now I'd like to understand the accuracy of Guide as it relates to the
upcoming occultation of Venus by the Moon on 22 April. My home location of
Worthington, Ohio (a suburb of Columbus in central Ohio) appears to be
outside the occultation zone according to the map in April's S&T. This is
reinforced by the chart of local circumstances I found on IOTA's website (
http://www.lunar-occultations.com/iota/planets/0422venus.htm), where
Columbus is not listed but other cities in the state are listed. However at
the prompting of one of my observing buddies, I fired up Guide to see how
close the Moon would come to Venus. Using Guide's default coordinates for
Worthington, OH when I set the date to 22 April and the time to 1310 UT
Guide shows a partial (grazing?) occultation. I uploaded a screen print of
this into the Miscellaneous photo file. It looks to be a very interesting
view from here - with one end of the crescent Moon cutting the crescent of
Venus in half.

So back to the reason of my posting. Is Guide accurate enough to represent
how this occultation will look from my location?
