What part of the sky is the alignment Map showing?

I'm still very new to EQMOD and having a problem underestanding what the
alignment MAP window is displaying. I understand the various coloured
'dots' but am confused about their plotting. I'm in the southern
hemisphere and am using alignment stars in the range -60 to -70 dec.
After I complete a three, or more, star alignment the MAP window shows a
large circle, with all my stars well outside the circle ... and some not
even getting on the map. My initial interpretation of the display is
that the circle represents zero declination and what is inside is the
northern hemisphere, with 90N dec at the centre. If this is correct then
it explains why all my alignmnent stars are well outside the circle,
some not seen. If not correct, then what is being displayed? It would
seem logical to me to have the circle centre as the observer's zenith,
but that doesn't explain what I'm seeing.
