Re: [guide-user] Tonights asteroid pass

it sounds like you need to update your asteroid MPC positions; this object is one of our
targets and it was only a few arcseconds (about 14" as I remember) from predicted with the
latest neatod.dat data. You can use this in Guide and change the name of it to
"mpcorb.dat" (no quotes); keep the original file as neatod.dat and make a second copy of
that file and rename to mpcorb.dat and place both in the Guide folder. This will allow
you to acquire the position accurately for GO TO, and will also allow you to measure it
accurately with the most up to date data on Charon.

Note that the neatod.dat file is updated daily about 2:30 a.m. EDT, and is only 1.17 meg
at present and contains all critical list asteroids that need attention....it sure beats
downloading the entire MPC list every day.

We update every afternoon before the observatories open up.
