i guess i haven't made myself clear, i appolgize. the icon for the globular clusters does not appear!! not for galaxies or open clusters, in fact, not for any DSOs! the exception is the globulars in M31, they show up. if i 'goto' M44, i see stars, but no indication there is a cluster there. not even the label appears even though it is checked on the display|data screen.
