Here is what I do to get 'info' on the deep sky object. Especially when in a crowed star field.

Point the mouse at a part of the symbol . Example....Glob cluster, I right click on any part of the 'circle' and that will give you the info screen. Open cluster, right click on any part of the segmented circle symbol.
A galaxy with the ellipse, just zoom in to see the symbol clearly and right click on it. Very seldom will it report info on a nearby star.
