Hi folks,
I've posted a _final_ "in-testing" version, again at
http://www.projectpluto.com/new.htm
This is "final" in the sense that it'll become official
in a few days, unless somebody informs me of a truly
horrendous bug. Relative to the previous version, this
moves the asteroid display related controls to a common
dialog (making the Extras menu somewhat less cluttered);
moves "Enter Time" from the Extras menu to the Settings
menu (right under "Time Dialog", which seemed a more
sensible place for it); and some small changes in names
(for example, since "RA/Dec Format" now controls formats
of dates/times, English vs. metric units, and latitude
and longitude, it's now called "Formats").
Also, the "Enter Time" option is a bit more flexible
in understanding your input. Basically, if you can read
the date/time you entered, Guide also ought to understand
it.
Also, there's a new "time zone": Local Apparent Time
(LAT). This corresponds to sundial time, and is time as
humans understood it in the millennia before we had clocks
and watches to complicate matters. If you set Guide's time
zone to LAT, the sun will always transit at noon. I added
it because Larry Dart mentioned something that caused me to
realize that this is exactly the time system you should be
using when considering "historical" events, and that Guide's
lack of it was a serious oversight on my part. (I'd previously
thought that only sundial makers would care about it.)
