The LX200 has a list of 250 alignment stars used in what they call
High-Precision pointing. When you are in the H-P mode and want to go to a
catalog object(64340 of them are in the data base) the scope will slew to
one of three nearest bright( mag 3.3 or brighter) stars. You then center
this star and press goto and the telescope will slew to the object that you
selected. It seems that Guide already does by using the "add alignment
star" radio button. When using the CCD camera I just slew to the object
and if it is not in the center of the frame, or outside the frame if my
polar alignment is off somewhat, I just match the star field in Guide with
what I see on the CCD camera, then click the "add alignment star" button
and then center the object I want, then click on "slew telescope". Guide
does the rest and I am set for any other object near this location. The
better the telescope is polar aligned the farther one can move and maintain
good accuracy in the slew.
