Hi Steve,

I got that same problem. As best I can tell, it means that
the Windows "Symbol" font isn't available. It _might_ be possible
to get around this issue, and some others, by having an actual
Windows partition available (as you probably know, you can tell
WINE to make use of Windows DLLs and such). I didn't do that; I
wanted to test out a for-real Linux-only solution.

As is mentioned on the update page, I lacked success with the
Greek-letter font and with anything that involved downloading data
(updating comets, grabbing DSS images, extracting star catalog
data in Extras... Get Star Catalog Data, or updating TLEs by
having them automatically downloaded). I have to admit that I
didn't try very hard. I may return to this subject, though,
because I did find that Linux/WINE turned up bugs that Windows
didn't.
