Re: [guide-user] Printing crash/faint probes
Bill J Gray Mar 11, 2008
Hi folks,
Please keep bug reports coming.
PRINTING CRASH:
I think I've figured this one out.
For testing purposes, I figured I ought to try just printing to
a file. That crashed reliably. I tried it with the printing dialog
boxes moved off the Guide chart, and it worked just fine. That
caused me to realize that the problem arises when Guide is attempting
to print and draw on-screen at the same time.
I've fixed this so that any on-screen redraws wait until the
printing is all done.
A remaining issue, mentioned from time to time on this list and
in some private e-mails, is that printing can be slow. The culprit,
I'm reasonably sure, is the star-drawing routine. It's fast enough
on-screen, where there are fewer pixels, but can bog down on the
printouts. I have an idea to get around this. But like assorted
other Good Ideas, it'll have to wait until this update is posted.
INTERPLANETARY PROBES:

Well, yes... the Voyagers and Pioneers are down around mag 51
or so. I may add, under (satellite) Display... Options, a
check-box to display/suppress these probes. (You _can_ just set
a magnitude limit, but that will also suppress all spacecraft
for which magnitude data is lacking. That would cover a lot of
objects. Though I might do something such as "for magnitude
filtering purposes, assume that all artsats are at least ten
cm across.")
