Hi Alan.
You can get a list of currently observable comets in Guide format from the
MPC. However this file is updated only once a month. Even though it is
quite complete to mag 19 or so and contains over 100 comets this month any
newly discovered comets will not be on this list and must be entered from
the minor planet electronic circulars. the URL for the comets is at:
http://cfa-www.harvard.edu/iau/Ephemerides/Comets/Soft02Cmt.txt
Not very many people in the US spend much time looking at comets which is
unfortunate.
