The first thing I'd do would be to right-click on the offending object(s).
You'll get a description of what the object is, and a "Display" button.
This will allow you to find out what the object is, then shut off one
version of it.

If that doesn't help... can you tell me _which_ objects are getting
duplicated? Stars? Galaxies? Nebulae? Or... ?
