Re: [guide-user] Length of lines in .dat files = 4000 bytes

Bertrand Laville Jul 18, 2007

Thanks, Bill, for the answer.

4000 bytes is largely enough for my need. I have reduced the line length of the .dat file at 940 bytes, which is the necessary number for the main data,
because I know to write a .tdf line such as:
~rxyz abc, where xyz is the number of the column, and abc the number of caracters ahead.
But I would like to enlarge the file at about 1500, to give more details.
How can I write the .tdf file? Is ~rxyzt abc right?

Thanks

Bertrand

Hi Bertrand,

At present, the maximum line length is 4000 bytes.

Let me know if you need more than that. The maximum line length
has been increased several times; I kept thinking "_this_ will be
long enough!", only to find out that it wasn't. If even 4000 bytes
is not enough, I'll revise Guide so that a TDF can contain a line
such as

maxline 320000

or some such (default remaining at 4000 bytes.)
