Hi Bill,
I've found a little bug in latest "beta" versions of Guide 8: in
planet trails plotted with 1 day step size and index frequency 5 the
index marks are all one step shifted. The same "tracks.uov" proved to
be accurate with the 2007 march 30 (the last official) version of
Guide.
There is another long-standing "bug" present in eclipse charts since
Guide 3 (Yes! The first version shipped on CD-rom): the visibility
charts for solar eclipses and lunar occultations are unfinished.
To illustrate the bug I have posted, in EclipseChartBug folder of
Files section of Yahoo! group, two charts of 2008 august 1 total
eclipse of the Sun adapted from the Astronomical Almanac web site
http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/guide-
user/files/EclipseChartBug/AsAlm080801.gif
and from Guide 8
http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/guide-
user/files/EclipseChartBug/Guide080801.gif
The Guide chart does not include the yellow filled area in
Astronomical Almanac chart where the eclipse is beginning at sunset
or is ending at sunrise. The same is valid for lunar occultation:
the Guide chart fail in showing the visibility area where the
occultation is beginning at moonset or is ending at moonrise.
Cheers,
