Re: [guide-user] Missing dialogs

Hi Jari, Bernd,
I recently got a second monitor (actually, I found a surprisingly good one
that had been thrown out at the local recycling barn, and hooked it up to an
old video card... the two-monitor setup is especially nice when, for example,
reading an e-mail on one screen while replying on the other, as I'm doing now.
But I digress.)
In the week or two that I've had this setup, I've noticed some odd things
of the sort Jari mentions, where windows can "vanish". I've not noticed the
problem Bernd mentions, but that's only because I haven't disconnected one
monitor; I can definitely see how the switch from two monitors to a single
monitor could leave some windows 'stranded'. Guide would position those
windows on the no-longer-in-use monitor, and you'd have no way to get at
them.
At present, the only "solution" to this problem is to delete the file
'maximum.dat' from your Guide folder. When you do this, Guide will return
to default settings for the positions of dialog boxes. Unfortunately, you
also lose your font settings (both screen and printer) when you do this,
and it does seem inelegant. I suggest it only as a workaround until I
puzzle out a better solution. (I've done a little bit of on-line research
on the problem, with no success thus far.)
