Re: [guide-user] Vista compatibility

Hi Lawrence,

That's a new one on me...

There have been at least a few people reporting problems
in getting Guide to install under Vista at all. The 'setup.exe'
program refuses to run on their systems. The workaround for
this, involving a new 'setup', is described and downloadable
at

http://www.projectpluto.com/setup.htm

I gather you didn't encounter that problem? The original
installation ran just fine, and then Extras... Install to
Hard Drive didn't do what it ought?

If so, the first thing I'd do would be to make sure to use
the current update from the Web site. The first batch of Guide
8.0 CDs (which would include the disks you have) had some odd
errors reported in the 'Install to Hard Drive' function, and
those are all fixed with the current update.

If that doesn't cover the problem, I'd need to know a bit
more about what's going on. In particular: do you see asterisks
beside the items that are (at least in theory) copied to the
hard drive, such as 'minimum install'?

As Clay has commented, people are encountering serious
problems with Vista in general. But aside from the 'setup'
problem, I've not heard of any involving Guide in particular.
(Comments to the contrary would be welcome.)
