Actually, the program re-arranges the element lines in MPCOrb.dat, Guide
does all the rest. It was intended only to reduce the size of the
MPCOrb.dat file so Guide would not have to labour through a 66 meg file
every times. A good 80% of the asteroids listed in this file probably
will never get any brighter than 19 magnitude.
The program takes a snapshot on the specified date and only keeps
asteroids which are brighter than the selected magnitude. These asteroid
elements are used to rebuild a new MPCOrb.dat to be used in Guide.
It is possible but it would only be a snapshot in time and validity for
an area of the sky would be short live as our universe is in constant
motion.
