Re: [guide-user] Nomad catalogue

Thanks, Bill, for your answer.

The main interest for the NOMAD catalog is, at least for me, that it includes pretty good Vmags from the Y unpublished catalog, up to 18th mag.
That said, I'ill wait the next beta update with a bit more impatience than I did for the previous ones !

Hi Bertrand,

I've hopes that the next update to Guide will have a much
better capability to handle downloadable datasets. That is,
if you see a dataset on VizieR and want Guide to be able to
handle it as it does B1.0, 2MASS, CMC-14, etc., it will
be almost trivial to do so. (Right now, each new downloadable
dataset requires me to modify Guide. I didn't realize, when
I first added downloadable datasets, that there might soon
be so many of them.)

That said, I'd be just a little bit cautious about NOMAD.
The catalog was just assembled by putting the sources together,
without (as best I can tell) any consideration of the relative
errors of individual stars and such. I think you might find
it perfectly decent for making star charts, but if you want
information about particular stars, you'll be better off to
get the data from the separate catalogs for that star.
